'Barbel River and Captures' by the Barbel Catchers Club

WELCOME TO THE new look Barbel Catchers Club Website that went live for the start of the 2006-7 season.

The previous season saw the Club go from strength to strength. The book 'Barbel Rivers and Captures' continues to shift copies. The book contains chapters on virtually every British river that has produced fish of 10lb and over, written by a local expert. Also there are chapters outlining how the BCC record for the river were caught that provides an insight into some of the problems that had to be overcome. You can buy the book from Waterstones or larger branches of WH Smiths. It is also available from the the book producers 'The Crowood Press' Website-click on the book to find out more.

THE 'TIP OF THE MONTH' theme will continue this year and the Tip for March and the rest of the close season is by Steve Kimpton on how to make your own lead weights.

I am stepping down as Website Organiser and Chris Dodge will take over at the start of the new season.

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this Site over the years-Andy Humphries.

BIGGEST FISH TROPHY SHARED

THE PRIZE FOR the biggest fish caught by a member of the Club for the 2005-2006 season was tied with barbel of 14lb 10oz to Martin Meecham on the Lower Severn and Steve Smith on the Lower Stretches of the Thames.

Martin's fish was caught the day after the Clubs National Fish-in on the Teme, which produced a healthy amount of fish including doubles to Rob Stoker and John Costello. The National Fish-in is one of the highlights of the season as the club converge on a stretch of river for a social followed by few pints and a curry in the evening,

Steve's fish was caught as part of a sustained campaign with fishing partner Pete Tesch and was reward for some gruelling sessions earlier on in the season.
